After graduating from University of Delaware with a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science and minor in Strength and Conditioning I felt as though something was missing. That is when I was introduced to CrossFit. Begin a college athlete and strength and conditioning minor I thought I was in great shape…thats where I was wrong. I was humbled the first week of trying CrossFit. It engaged my core more than any other workout method I used in the past. I have been doing CrossFit since spring of 2010. I am faster, stronger, and healthier than I have ever been in my life. It is amazing what your body is able to do with the right training, nutrition, and mobility. I now train to live a healthy lifestyle, compete in CrossFit competitions, and help others realize their true potential. What CrossFit does is make the connection between being healthy and being fit which should be one in the same. If you want to be the best athlete or just a healthy pain free individual you have to train, eat, sleep, stretch, and act like that person. It is a lifestyle choice. The workouts never get boring and it’s a challenge for every level.
I love expanding my knowledge and believe you can learn something from every training methodology. I had the opportunity to intern in college weight rooms, conduct personal training sessions at 24 hour fitness, as well as a great opportunity to intern under Olympic Lifting coaches and train with Olympic Gymnastic Coaches. I have taken what I have learned from each experience and applied it to my current way of training. I was fortunate enough to make it to CrossFit Regionals four times, once as a team member and three times as an individual. Competitions push you mentally and physically and I have had the opportunity to compete at a very high level. It is through all of those experiences that I have now committed myself to coaching at the highest level and creating an environment for everyone in my community to become the best athlete they can be.

When I first found CrossFit I couldn’t even do a pull-up and the first workout left me flat on my back for a good 15 minutes, as a previous college athlete I was humbled. I was using it to get in shape for playing field hockey overseas and it ended up being the best decision I ever made. CrossFit really covers all areas of fitness and it quickly became a huge passion of mine. I loved fitness and had always been an athlete my whole life but had never been able to challenge my fitness since competing at the college level. CrossFit is now that outlet for me to compete and challenge myself on a daily basis.
Coaching at CrossFit Bear has really made me fall in love with CrossFit all over again. Being able to be a part of our members’ success is the most inspiring thing to me. CrossFit is above all about community and that is so evident here at CrossFit Bear. Seeing our members get excited when they get their first pull-up or PR a workout is so rewarding and moving. CrossFit is something much bigger than just working out, it is an emotional commitment to becoming the best you can be and it is something I love being a part of here at CrossFit Bear.

I never played sports, my passion and form of exercise was horsebacking riding. Cleaning stalls, carrying hay bales, buckets of water and anything that helped take care of my horse was how I stayed fit. Once I had my first daughter and riding was no longer my first priority my sister/ Coach Quinn introduced me to CrossFit. At first I was nervous but the more I worked out and learned how to lift weights and challenge myself I was addicted. I was able to get in the best shape of my life by CrossFit and changing how I ate and viewed food. I has been almost four years and I had my second daughter May 2014. It has been very challenging after this past pregnancy emotionally and physically to get back in shape but CrossFit has helped me stay focused. I want to inspire my girls to be active and healthy and to know how awesome it is to be a strong female.
The best part of CrossFit is that everyone can do it. It doesn’t matter if you are athlete or a certain age, it can be a great workout for anyone wanting to get healthy. The community of people is more than just the person working out at the same gym, we are a family. We push each other to do our best and cheer for everyone to finish a workout. I love being a coach and watching people exceed their expectations of themselves. It makes me very proud to be a part of CrossFit. To look back at the last four years if you told me I would be a coach I would probably laugh but thanks to my sister/Coach Quinn for helping me learn and introduce me to CrossFit. I am able to take that knowledge and experiences and share it with other people. I too hope to inspire others to get healthy and get out of your comfort zone, as well as continue to improve as a coach and athlete.

To me, CrossFit is more than just a good workout. It is a way of life. CrossFit is everything from making healthy choices to breaking through comfort zones and meeting new people. Over the short period of time that I have been a part of CrossFit, I have not only become more physically fit, but I have also built more meaningful relationships than I ever had. CrossFit pushes me to become a better version of myself every single day, and that is why I have been hooked ever since I took my first step into CrossFit Bear. The environment and community have changed my life for the better. There is something about everyone having related goals that makes it that much easier to keep me coming back for more.

I’ve spent about 13 years working in the fitness industry, in just about every environment from globo gyms, to college sports & rec centers, retirement centers, and body building competition and nutrition planning. I began doing Crossfit back in 2007, when it was mostly in garages, basements, or small corners of larger “regular” gyms! My husband and I were looking for something fun, challenging, and a way to meet new people after we moved from PA to NC. Nearly 10 years, a few more moves up the east coast, and 3 kids later, Crossfit has become the constant in my life. Personally, Crossfit has gotten- and kept- me in the best shape of my life. I never thought I’d be stronger and fitter as an (almost) 37 year old mom of 3, than I was at age 27, but I am! Crossfit encourages me to keep setting new goals so I am always learning, pushing myself, and working towards being a healthy role model for my sons and training clients.
I love how Crossfit workouts can be scaled for any population from kids to weekend warriors…from competitive athletes to soccer moms, the elderly, and everyone in between! I’m also a firm believer in Crossfit’s ability to help people overcome body image issues because health and athletic performance are the focus, not a specific look or size. Whether your goal is to improve your endurance, get stronger, loose body fat or even rehab an injury, Crossfit’s approach to training and nutrition will help you get there. As I coach, I strive to get people comfortable working outside of their comfort zone, and to realize that they are capable of much more than they may think they are. The Crossfit Bear community proves this to me everyday! I am so thankful to have found this community of people, and am proud to have the opportunity to coach here!

I played sports growing up, Baseball, football, running, volleyball, and biking to name a few. As I became older I was looking for something to keep my mind and body going. I started running again. Mud runs, OCR events and 5K’s. While training for the events I wasn’t seeing any improvement. Kind of plateaued and felt I needed something to get me over the hump. I used to go to the gym and do the standard routine, Biceps, triceps, chest and back. It just wasn’t getting me anywhere. Then I discovered CrossFit through researching different options to train for OCR races. I went to a free class and was hooked after that.
What CrossFit has given to me is that sense of belonging. It’s a community that is supportive in all aspects of your life. It’s a positive environment that fosters you to want to improve all the aspects of your life. I’ve changed the way I eat, sleep, and work out. Lost weight when I didn’t think I had it to lose. I believe in CrossFit and CrossFit Bear so much that I have my whole family working out there. My 10 year old son, 14 year old daughter, 18 year old daughter, and my wife.
The community at CrossFit Bear will be the first thing that you notice when you walk down the hallway to the gym. The pictures of our Fit Family as we like to call it. Or after a workout the high fives and cheers you’ll receive. We also love to take our fitness and apply it to fun outside of the gym. It might be a trip to the beach, skiing, playing volleyball, 5K or maybe just getting together and eating some good food. I’m proud of the relationship I have made at CrossFit Bear and the opportunity to coach in such a positive and rewarding environment!

There are no perfect words that could accurately explain what CrossFit means to me. I started CrossFit when I was still in high school and my only regret is that I wish I had found it sooner. I talk about CrossFit a lot because CrossFit has positively impacted all aspects of my life. I eat better, I sleep better, I workout harder, and I live a much happier life.
There is so much more to CrossFit than just working out. It’s about getting better every day and having fun doing it. At CrossFit Bear, we are constantly striving to get better whether that means lifting more, running faster, or even becoming more flexible. We encourage and support our athletes as they set goals, try new activities, and live healthier lives.
